Volunteer Services

150 volunteers provide high-quality, compassionate customer services to patients, visitors, and community members at Littleton Regional Hospital. Adult and junior volunteers staff key areas throughout our Hospital. Visitors to the hospital will find volunteers at the Reception Desk, the Same-Day Surgery Center, the Hospital Auxiliary’s Moose Ledge Gift Shop, our Medical/Surgical floor, and the Physicians’ Office Building Atrium. These generous and caring individuals provide companionship for our patients and visitors, clerical support to many members of our staff, and a positive attitude and desire to help others.

There are many Volunteer opportunities to choose from at Littleton Regional Hospital.

Our Front Reception Desk

The Reception Desk is staffed by twenty-seven shifts of volunteers per week. Our volunteers greet patients and their families, as well as visitors and staff, with cheerful smiles. They provide directions to various areas throughout the hospital and assist our patients and visitors in reaching their destinations. We truly value their service. If you are interested in becoming a member of our Volunteer Team, simply speak with one of our Volunteers. It's a rewarding experience!

Our Same-Day Surgery Waiting Area

There are ten volunteer shifts in our Same-Day waiting area, with eight shifts currently staffed by our volunteers. If you would be interested in joining Littleton Regional Hospital's dynamic volunteer staff, please speak with one of our volunteers at the Front Reception Desk. We'd love to welcome you to our group!

Moose Ledge Gift Shop

Our Moose Ledge Gift Shop, managed by the Littleton Hospital Auxiliary, is yet another area where you will find volunteers working. The Gift Shop is staffed by some of our volunteers, who cheerfully provide excellent customer service to our patients and their families, as well as to visitors and staff. There are currently eleven shifts, and some of these shifts are split. If you are interested in joining Littleton Regional Hospital's "family" and becoming part of our wonderful Volunteer Program, please speak with our volunteer currently staffing the Gift Shop. We'd love to have you join our "Hospital family"! And please take a moment to browse through our Gift Shop, brimming over with cards, cuddly stuffed animals, and many special gift items! We're very proud of it!

Our Medical/Surgical Area

If you are interested in volunteering some time to assist our very busy Medical/Surgical staff by helping to provide those "extra" services to our patients, and to help with office processes, please speak with one of our volunteers at the hospital's Front Reception Desk. Become a member of our Volunteer Team! It's a rewarding experience!

Our Medical Office Building Atrium

There are ten volunteer shifts in our Atrium Area, with only five shifts currently staffed by volunteers. Our volunteers greet patients and their families, as well as visitors and staff, with cheerful smiles. They offer directions and provide assistance when needed. We value their services. If you are interested in joining Littleton Regional Hospital's dynamic Volunteer Staff, please speak with our Atrium volunteer or one of our volunteers at the Front Reception Desk, or call 444-9207. We'd love to welcome you to our group!

Five New Volunteer Opportunities:

Transport Volunteer Program:

Every weekday from 7a.m. – 4p.m. we have volunteers who carry a mobile phone. They receive calls throughout the day to transport patients, visitors, flowers, mail, records, anything portable from one location in the hospital to another. Each volunteer covers a three hour shift and has a substitute in case they are ill or need to take a vacation or time off.

New Medical Office Building Reception Desk Volunteers:

These volunteers cover a 4 hour shift once a week either mornings or afternoons. They greet each patient and visitor coming through the door and offer directions and wheelchairs and/or escort them to their destination.

Music Therapy Volunteers:

Each week we have area musicians come to the hospital to play for our patients. The music varies depending on the musician and covers classical, country, jazz, show tunes, Irish tunes, and popular music from the 50’s and 60’s. Our musicians play a variety of instruments including piano, guitar, harp and accordion. We also have singing groups and individuals offer music as well.

Pet Therapy Program:

Each week one of our volunteers brings in one of her Bernese Mountain Dogs, all of whom have gone through intensive training and are registered through Therapy Dogs International. Patients who are interested may have a visit from one of these dogs.

Lifeline Program:

Littleton Regional Hospital offers a Lifeline Program as a satellite of Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center’s Lifeline Program. This is a 24 hour 7 day a week 365 days a year response system that allows individuals to stay safely in their homes. If they fall or are ill, all they have to do is push the Lifeline button that is worn either as a necklace or on the wrist and help is on the way. To find out more about our Lifeline Program or to order a Lifeline unit, please call the following toll free number: 1-888-699-4034. The staff member answering your call can take down information that’s needed to subscribe to Lifeline and answer any questions you may have about the program. Dartmouth will then contact Littleton Regional Hospital’s Volunteer Department and a local volunteer from our hospital will call to make arrangements to install the Lifeline unit at the subscriber’s convenience.

Roaming Volunteers

Besides these volunteer stations, our hospital has an exciting new volunteer position called the "roaming volunteer". Each day of the week a different volunteer tours the hosital's patient rooms, waiting areas, hallways and cafeteria speaking with patients and visitors -- looking for ways to improve our excellent customer service. This has been well recieved by patients, visitors and staff.

We have many volunteers within our hospital's various departments copying, collating, filing, and assisting with large mailings, special projects, and computer tasks.
