Before your surgery
Your pre-op appointment
When your surgery or procedure date is scheduled by your provider's office will also schedule you for a pre-operative/pre-procedure visit or phone call with a registered nurse.
Preparation for your pre op appointment phone call:
- Write down any questions or concerns you have regarding your upcoming procedure
- Be prepared to tell us your current medications including the dosages
- Be prepared to tell us your allergies and your reactions
- Be prepared to discuss with us your health history including a list of your previous surgical procedures
- Please plan on this interview typically requiring about 30 minutes of your time. We ask that you be available at the time you are scheduled.
Preparation for your pre op appointment visit
Prior to your visit:
- Write down and bring with you any questions or concerns you have regarding your upcoming procedure
- Be prepared to tell us your current medications including the dosages, preparing a written list and bringing that with you is helpful
- Be prepared to tell us your allergies and your reactions
- Be prepared to discuss with us your health history including a list of your previous surgical procedures
- We will ask you about your most recent Pneumovax and flu vaccine, if you have those dates from your primary care physician’s office it would be appreciated
When you arrive for your visit:
- We ask that you check in with the admissions department on arrival to the hospital for you visit.
- Please plan on this interview typically requiring about 60 minutes of your time. We ask that you be arrive at the time you are scheduled.
- Keep in mind that if you are having a visit with our nurse you may additionally need to have laboratory testing, x-rays, EKG’s or meet with a member of the anesthesia department and is will add additional time to your appointment.
- If you do not meet with a member of the anesthesia department at this appointment, you will have that opportunity on the morning of your procedure.
- Please bring a copy of your Living Will, Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care and/or guardian papers if applicable.
