Flu Prevention Tips
These are a few helpful hints to keep in mind to help prevent the spread of the flu this season.
- Wash your hands often
- Use tissues when you cough or sneeze and discard them immediately in the trash.
- Avoid being around others who are sick.
- Stay at home of you have a cough or fever
- Clean commonly touched household surfaces often, such as faucet handles, countertops and door knobs.
Most cases of the flu can be treated with over the counter medications, plenty of fluids and rest. If you are treated by a physician and antiviral medications are prescribed, take all of your medication as directed. People are contagious for about one day prior to the onset of flu symptoms and for 5 to 7 days after symptoms occur.
The CDC Website is a great resource for more in-depth information about the flu: www.cdc.gov/flu/keyfacts.htm.
Due to the worsening flu outbreak in New Hampshire and surrounding states, Littleton Regional Hospital administration is implementing a restricted visitor policy temporarily. People with respiratory or flu-like symptoms will also be asked to refrain from visiting patients and staff in the hospital/practices. Questions regarding these temporary visitor restrictions should be directed to LRH Quality Services at (603) 444-9597
