Women's Health Conference

On Monday, May 10, 2010, more than 300 women from all over New England came together for the Littleton Regional Hospital’s 19th Annual Women’s Health Conference at The OMNI Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods in the Presidential Conference Center.
Participants from as far away as Rhode Island gathered at The Mt. Washington for this daylong celebration focusing on women’s physical and emotional wellbeing. They learned from lectures on important women’s wellness issues, visited more than 30 vendors who filled the conference center, and participated in free health screenings for cholesterol, blood pressure, glucose and body mass composition all provided by Littleton Regional Hospital. Many attendees also enjoyed free chair massages, Reiki and Reflexology treatments provided by the OMNI Mt.Washington Spa, Spalogy and Linda Murphy Luck.
Attendees chose from eighteen lectures on traditional and complementary medicine, from astroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) disease and treatment options, thyroid, understanding and preventing lower back injuries, creative brainstorming, hear failure, women and heart arrhythmias, incontinence and bladder control, self-defense tactics for women, osteoarthritis, lymphedema after breast surgery, acupuncture for women, memory loss, healthy microwave cooking, reflexology, and balance disorders.
The day included an informative presentation by Dr. Joann E. Manson, Chief of the Division of Preventive Medicine and Co-Director of the Connors Center for Women’s Health and Gender Biology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. (pictured right) Dr. Manson’s focused on “The 30-Minute Fitness Solution” A Four-Step Plan for Women of all Ages, helping participants learn interesting information on how they can exercise regardless of barriers – whether they are too tired, too down, or too old. With the four step plan that Dr. Manson demonstrated, every woman could find ways to a happier and healthier lifestyle.
Gail Clark, director of development and community relations at LRH, mentioned all of the sponsors whose support makes hosting this exciting conference possible; LRH Auxiliary, OMNI Mt/ Washington Resort, Advanced Graphics Communication, Garnet Hill, New England Employee Benefits, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care – Health Plans, Inc. and Hackett, Valine & MacDonald, Inc.
